Dr. Ahmed Ewaisha |
Dr. Ahmed Ewaisha, Ph.D., joined the AMA in 2017 after years of community service in mosques, interfaith councils and educational groups. He works to unify Arizona Muslims by promoting harmony among organizations, encouraging communication to avoid effort duplication and ensuring awareness and engagement in the political and media arenas.
Dr. Ewaisha is a very involved chairman and has led multiple efforts and initiatives such as the launch of the AMA website, a Muslim business directory (www.arizonatradenetwork.com), many AMA events and member recruitment. Dr. Ahmed Eaisha is an electrical engineer and an assistant professor at Arizona State University. He resides in Tempe. |
Vice Chairman
Shahir Safi |
Shahir Safi has been AMA’s vice chairman since 2022. He is involved in humanitarian work with the AMA’s Refugee Task Force, dawah work, and Muslim youth development. He is also a regular Khateeb in the Valley. He is passionate about doing work in service to humanity. His motivation for involvement in AMA comes from belief that the strength of the community is based on unity. Mr. Safi is a civil engineer and lives in Chandler.

Secretary
Susan Bassal, Esq |
Suzanne Bassal, Esq., joined the AMA in 2016 to help unify the Arizona Muslim community and enhance Muslim participation in the public sphere. She chairs the AMA Media & Civic Engagement committees.
Ms. Bassal is an attorney, activist and former broadcast journalist at CNN. She also serves on the board of Arizona Cultural Academy, a private Islamic school. Ms. Bassal resides in Phoenix with her husband and four children. |
Treasurer
Hossam Halawani, |
Hossam Ali Halwani has been treasurer since early 2022 and has volunteered his time with AMA for the past three years.
Mr. Ali Halwani is hafiz of the Quran. He volunteers in the community by leading taraweeh prayers, teaching Sunday school, judging Quran competitions and giving Islamic lectures. He is also on the board of the Intel Muslim Employee Group. Mr. Ali Halwani is an industrial engineer and lives in Chandler. |
